It’s always hard to say goodbye to summer…I never look forward to the cold weather, but this year I have decided to embrace the temperatures. Luckily I haven’t had to so much since the temperatures in Georgia have mostly remained pretty warm. Change is never easy. Whether it be the seasons or life’s twist and turns, there are always adjustments that need to be made. I challenge you to open yourself to change. The past two weeks have flown by so quickly! Tamra and I have been super busy. From coast to coast (well not really more like 300 miles give or take), We have been jet-setting this Spring. So, it was a Friday night and for us it was date night. Choosing what to wear on a date can always be nerve racking, but it all depends on the weather and the type of event you're attending. Tonight we plan to keep it simple. I chose to wear a dress (which would be my normal choice). Keelia chose to wear jeans, bandeau top and a mesh shirt. My philosophy is wear whatever makes you feel sexy and confident. If you're self-conscience, he will be able to read that as well. Always remember, whatever you wear on date confidence is most important! So take a look at our examples of date night outfits. Enjoy!

Tonight Tamra and I enjoyed some delicious crab cakes!!! They were perfectly golden and stuffed with tons of crab!

Cooking is our new venture. It’s all a part of our healthy lifestyle change that began in September of 2010. So far we have both lost 15 lbs! By no means were we fat before, but we were definitely caring around some unwanted extra weight…To the point where some of my clothes were beginning to fit a little too tight. It was actually a very sad realization for me. After I lost the weight, I could still fit into most of my clothes, so I know that the clothes I was wearing were way too tight on me (kind of embarrassing, but it is true).

On Monday I was doing my usual blog browsing and came across this recipe on How Sweet It Is. I followed the recipe exactly and they came our perfect. Each bite was a heavenly blessing. These will be a permanent addition to the recipe book!

This was just a snippet of our lifesytle change. Check back later this week for our post on staying active!

Baby it's cold outside!

Another Night Out

Being that it's been extremely cold here lately, it is getting harder and harder for Keelia and me to find things to wear out at night. I've taken to layering. I just put as many things as I can to stay warm. Keelia's take is sex it up, but stay warm. Since I hate cold weather, we have two very different views on a night look...I think we have come up with some pretty fabulous arrangements.

Wearing: American Appareal bodysuit, Hue leggings and vintage tuxedo jacket

She added a littke spice with the red flower broach from The Limited, belt from Target (only $3!!!!) and necklace from Chico's.

Wearing: fur vest and black pants Ann Taylor Loft, short leather jacket Dillard's. Although you can't see it in this picture, under the leather jacket I have on a jean jacket H&M and black silk shirt BEBE.

Still loving the frames! Vintage necklace from Granny's collection. Since I'm a jewerly whore, I cant give up my big chunky rings just because it's cold, so I started wearing them over my gloves. The owl ring is from Forever 21(Keelia's ring collection).

Christmas in November!

It seems every year Christmas comes earlier and earlier. Why is it that people seem to skip over Thanksgiving and go from Halloween to Christmas? As we arrived in New Orleans this year, we were pleasantly surprised to be greeted with the most amazing Christmas décor at The Roosevelt Hotel. The lobby was covered in lights, crystal, and red and green ornaments!! It really did put me in the holiday mood. The elegance of the entire hotel really put Tamra and I in super redecoration mode and now we cannot wait to get home and do a little redecorating and put up a little holiday cheer! A little bit of history...

The Roosevelt Hotel originall opened in 1893 as the Grunewald. In 1923 it was renamed The Roosevelt in honor of President Theodore Roosevelt. It is one of the first grand hotels in the south. In 2009 The Roosevelt underwent a 145 million dollar restoration. The Roosevelt has house many celebrities and former presidents. It is a true legendary experince in the heart of New Orleans.

This Ain't Yo' Mama's Moo Moo!

My goodness it’s been so hot outside! Finding something cool and comfortable to wear is becoming more of a dreaded task than a fun filled adventure. We were filled with excitement when shopping in Ross one day and we came a across a garment that brought back wonderful childhood memories: the “moo moo”! I couldn't believe it! This old ugly thing our mom used to wear on Sundays while cooking and getting ready for church suddenly was the center of a fashion breakthrough for Tamra. She suggested that we make the “moo moo” into an outfit. I kept looking around and all I saw were old women admiring this shapeless piece of clothing. Clearly, I wasn’t so easily convinced, but soon saw her vision.

Properly known as a caftan (or Kaftan), the “moo moo” is described in the Fashion Book as a rectangular cut ankle length garment with a front opening, side splits, and sometimes a cummerbund, probably originating from Mesopotamia.

According to the article History of the Caftan, it has moved through African, Eastern Europe, Russia and in the 1960s became a fashion staple in the US. The caftan is made from various lengths and fabrics. At one time in history the fabric of a caftan was a sign of a person’s social status. Today they are made out of mostly silk and cotton and are used a variety of ways.

Caftans can be personalized to fit your own style. It can be worn with a belt, jewelry, flats or heels, dressed up or down. Whatever you like! For Tamra and I, its way to be fashionable, revisit the past and stay cool in this smoldering heat!

So here's what we did...

Before the transformations

I decided I wanted to make my caftan short, so I cut off the bottom! I also made mine one shoulder by cutting the arm of the caftan and tying it on the side. I added a small belt and accessories to spice it up a bit!

Tamra loved the length and flow of the caftan, so she just cut off the tassels and kept hers long. She added bold accessories and high heels for a dramatic effect!

Think the unthinkable with MoA'cCha Mode...

On Saturday Keelia and I had the pleasure to attend the Moaccha Mode fashion showcase. This was the third showcase for self taught designer Ramaiseya Parham. Ramaiseya is a 21 year old senior at Clark Atlanta University majoring in Communications. The showcase focused on her view of fashion from the past, present and future using the colors black and white as inspiration. The event was held at MF Buckhead, which provided an intimate space for Ramaiseya to share her vision with family, friends and media. Keelia and I had a chance to sit down with her before the show to discuss her line and inspiration. We were very impressed with Ramaiseya’s direct vision, passion and drive that will definitely take her far in the fashion world and in life.

When did you realize that you wanted to be a designer?

I’ve always had it inside of me. I was 18 when I decided to embark in the world of fashion. I bought lots of books & taught myself how to draw. I’m on my third showcase and people are really starting to pay attention to my work. Now, I’m focusing on branding my name and getting people to wear the clothing.

How did you get started?

When I was in high school people would always say how nice I dressed. I was voted best dressed for our senior superlatives. I decided that this is what I want to do and I’m going to do it! I did and continue to do a lot a research and I learn as I go…

Who or what inspires you?

Music is my biggest inspiration. I was listening to Drakes Fancy and I got an idea for an entire collection. It’s about me listening and hearing the beats…It makes me think about patterns, who I am designing for and where this person would wear my clothing.

Who do you design for?

I design for women and girls who are not afraid to take risk with their fashion. Women like Rihanna, Beyonce, Amber Rose, and sometimes even Lady Gaga…Women who may not have all the confidence they need, but when they put my clothes on they feel like they can do anything. My clothes are made to inspire strong confident women!

What is the focus of your current line?

Everything is black and white. The showcase is timeless: past, present and future.

What is your favorite type of garment to design?

Dresses! I think dresses are awesome. To me dresses makes a woman feel graceful. The shoulders on a woman are so beautiful. Woman should show off their curves.

What is one thing that you think every woman should have in her closet?

A pair of skinny jeans, white tee and some bad heels that are over 5 inches. This outfit can make a woman look like a million bucks even on a bad day!

Beside yourself who is your favorite designer?

Betsy Johnson I love her attitude…Alexander McQueen, but Gucci is my favorite.

Do you have any mentors?

No, I don’t. My mom is my manager. It’s really just me and her…if I need help with something I will ask someone in my family.

Where do you see yourself in five years?

In five years, I would like to have a store in Atlanta, Los Angeles, NYC and Japan. I hope to have my clothing in local Atlanta stores like Cherry Bomb, Envy and La Bella Vie Boutique. I want everyone to wear my clothes from celebrities to the everyday woman. I dream big so in five yrs I plan to be taking over. One of my biggest dreams is to have a photo shoot with the 5 biggest female and male fashion icons.

This weekend Tamra and I had the opportunity to go to New Orleans! Although we were not able to attend any of the Essence Festival events, we did have plenty of time to tour the beautiful city! New Orleans is a city rich in culture, people and food. Even though I have been to New Orleans many times before, I definitely learn something new with every visit. Hey Ba-by (in my best New Orleans accent)!!! What an adventure we had today. We attended A Bloggers Luncheon with Talking with Tami at Cafe Decuir which is also the headquarters for DeCuir Gourmet Co. Inc. The luncheon included great company and of course wonderful food! One woman's trash, is another woman's treasure

Today we decided to go digging for treasures. What’s a better way to do this than to go consignment shopping? We like to think of this shopping experience as “thrifting,” so off we went to the Nearly New Shop Thrift Store. It was our lucky day because we found so many items that others thought were trash, but to us we they were newly found treasures! This is definitely a stop you would want to make if you like unique vintage pieces. Remember to be careful when picking your items because there are defects like missing buttons. The shop has a community dressing room, so don’t be shy. This was an adventure and we were able to come home and create some pretty fly fits. LOL Check it out and enjoy!

HOT, HOT, HOT!!! La Bella Boutique in Castleberry Hill (Atlanta) is the newest kid on the block and if I may so myself, it truly made a memorable impression! Paying close attention to mixing fashion and art, La Bella Vie gives a high end vibe without breaking the bank. Updating your wardrobe has now been made easy and accessible! Boutique owner and fashion designer Jason Scott. La Bella Vie is his 1st Boutique. He hopes to carry his own clothing line at the boutique in the near future.

Harriette Thomas Visual Merchandiser/ Buyer for La Bella Vie Boutique. Harriette says the boutiques style is similar to the items found in Level X or Forever 21, but the boutiques clothing inventory is of a much higher quality. "The Boutique does not back stock," she says, "all of our merchandise is on the floor, so once it's gone it is replace with new merchandise." She describes the demographic as any woman from 18 to 40, college students to working woman, someone who is constantly updating their wardrobe. Harriette also mentioned the the pieces in the boutique are easily mixed and matched with one another.

Out for a night of salsa dancing Tamra paired her black cropped t-shirt with this lovely black, white and red printed skirt from TJ Maxx (shoes from Ross).

I wore my LOVE cropped t-shirt with a red & white stripped tube top underneath and PZI jeans (Macy's).

Jetsetting? Pack like a pro!

Since we just celebrated the 1st day of summer this past Monday, Tamra and I thought it would be fitting to do a post on packing for any upcoming summer vacations. It so easy to under / over pack, but if you follow these tips you are sure to have the perfect outfits and accessories for a summer getaway!

Here are a few helpful hints you can use as a guide when packing for a weekend trip!

First, we like to begin by laying out all outfits including shoes, accessories and "unmentionables." This is much is easier than throwing random clothes in our suitcase. You will have an outfit(s) for each day and occasion.

We also suggest packing a couple of just-in-case outfits like the two below...you never know!

After you have gathered your wardrobe, lay them all out and assess your items to make ensure you have everything you need.

For a weekend trip, We suggest using a weekender bag or a small carry-on suitcase like the one above. This will provide you enough space for all of your things and also smaller compartments for separating garments.

Layering is key when packing a suitcase. We like to start by placing shoes on the bottom.

On top of the shoes we layer all purses.

Fold or tightly roll garments (this is your preference, whichever way all of your items fit the best). In side pockets place belts, undergarments and lounge wear (Pj's).

Toiletries and cosmetics should be placed in a separate tote bag in order to protect clothing from spillage.

Now you are ready for a fun filled trip with a no worry wardrobe! Have fun and be Chic!

Yesterday evening Tamra and I had the opportunity to attend the grand opening of Plush Boutique! This unique clothing store caters to the fabulous and curvy women, sizes 12-24. The store is located in Historic Castleberry Hill. We had a wonderful time checking out the merchandise, so that we could share it with all of you. We even made a purchase of our own!! The store is filled with great finds for your spring collection: flowing dresses and skirts, sandals and peep-toe pumps, jeans and flirty blouses. If you are in to high end fashion at an affordable price, then you will definitely love this boutique!

Today Tamra and I were able to celebrate Mother’s Day with the women who have influenced our passion for fashion the most: our mother and grandmother. Our love for fashion wasn’t a learned concept…It was inherited. As small children, we practically lived in the mall. We would always begin our shopping day as soon as the stores opened and wouldn’t leave until the doors were being locked.

We celebrated Mother’s Day with brunch at The Pecan in College Park. It’s is a lovely restaurant and one of my favorites. I am hoping everyone had a wonderful day and if you are a mother, Happy Mother’s Day to you as well!

Not only for the movie, but for these fabulous colors. I have been in search for vibrant purple and blue nail polish colors. This collection has both shades. I am so excited about the month of May! I have the honor of attending two celebrations of love.
